- Description: The best laptops we sell at seven budgets, from under R10,000 to under R100,000, priced as complete configurations with honest build-quality and software trade-offs. Updated 9 September 2026.

**Buy the whole laptop, not the starting price.** This guide picks the best complete configuration we sell at seven budgets, from under R10,000 to under R100,000, for study, office work, travel, gaming and professional use. Prices and stock were rechecked on **9 September 2026**.

**What our compared prices include:** RAM, storage, an operating system and a usable power adapter. WootBooks are shown in the configuration we would recommend. Local Mac SKUs ship without an adapter, so our totals add one; if you already own a suitable charger, subtract that line.

All prices include VAT and the displayed EFT discount; delivery is extra. Stock in our warehouse ships in a day or two; supplier stock takes a little longer. Prices move, so treat these as a snapshot.

Our picks favour a balanced complete configuration, a good screen, software that fits the work and a machine that can be serviced, over whichever CPU has the flashiest badge.

## WootBooks: the build we recommend

Both WootBooks ship barebones, which is the point: you choose the memory, storage and operating system rather than paying for someone else’s guess. For this guide we configured each with **24GB (2×12GB Patriot Signature Line Core DDR5-5600 SO-DIMMs), a Crucial E100 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD and Windows 11 Home DSP**. It is the balanced dual-channel build we would put together for most buyers.

Why 24GB rather than the 32GB option? The 32GB option is a single module and the 24GB option is two, and dual channel matters on the Y15’s integrated graphics. If you know you need more, go bigger in pairs. The E100 is a value SSD and a good one for the money; heavy scratch-disk creators may want something faster.

Core i3-1215U8GB DDR4512GB NVMe15.6-inch FHD IPS-levelWindows 11 Home

**Why we like it:** Under R10,000 you usually get an N-series chip and an eMMC drive dressed up as a laptop. This one gives you a real Core i3, a proper NVMe SSD and an IPS-level screen, and that combination is why it is our pick. It boots quickly, it copes with a browser full of tabs, and it does not feel like a compromise at the price.

**Build and ownership:** Chiclet keyboard, 42Wh battery, 1.7kg. It is a plain plastic daily-carry laptop and it is honest about it. The 250-nit panel is fine indoors and washes out in bright sun.

**Who it suits:** Students and home users who live in a browser, Office and video calls. The 8GB of RAM is the one thing to keep an eye on; if you are a forty-tab person, the M1502NAQ below is worth the extra R3,300.

Ryzen 5 15016GB DDR5 (8GB onboard + 8GB SO-DIMM)512GB NVMeFHD IPS-levelWindows 11 Home

**Why we like it:** The best ready-to-use Windows laptop we sell under R15,000, and it is not close. Six Ryzen cores, 16GB of memory, a 512GB NVMe drive, Windows 11 Home and the 45W adapter are all in the box. Most of the competition at this price still ships 8GB, and 8GB is where cheap laptops go to feel slow.

**Build and ownership:** The 250-nit, 45% NTSC screen is comfortable for documents rather than a photographer’s reference. 42Wh battery, 1.7kg, plastic shell. [EFTM’s review of the related X1502](https://eftm.com/2025/05/asus-vivobook-15-x1502-review-performance-on-a-budget-262534?ref=blog.wootware.co.za) liked the keyboard and trackpad and found the plastic body pleasant to handle; that was an Intel unit, so its battery and performance numbers belong to a different laptop.

**Who it suits:** Office work, study and general productivity with several apps open at once. If you need a wide-gamut display or a dedicated GPU, keep scrolling; both are further down.

Compared total: laptop R12,699 plus R370 for the adapter. If you already own a suitable charger, the laptop alone is R12,699.

**Why we like it:** The cheapest way into macOS that we would actually recommend. It runs full macOS rather than iPadOS, and the A18 Pro is quick for everyday work. The compared price includes the 20W adapter because Apple does not put one in the box here.

**Build and ownership:** Fanless aluminium, a 500-nit sRGB display and 1.23kg. It feels far more expensive than it is. The catch is 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage, and neither can be upgraded later. [Notebookcheck’s Neo overview](https://www.notebookcheck.net/Apple-MacBook-Neo-256-GB.1250877.0.html?ref=blog.wootware.co.za) collects the family’s reviews rather than testing this exact local SKU.

**Who it suits:** Writers, students and anyone who wants a Mac for light work without spending MacBook Air money. If you would rather have 16GB and a Windows licence for the same money, the Vivobook above is the more flexible machine.

**Why we like it:** 978 grams. That number is the whole pitch. Add 32GB of memory, a 1TB SSD and an OLED panel and you have a laptop you will forget is in your bag. Windows on Arm is the one thing to check first: mainstream software runs fine, but some specialist tools, drivers and anti-cheat games do not.

**Build and ownership:** [Notebookcheck tested this processor with 32GB/1TB](https://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-Zenbook-A14-laptop-review-The-14-inch-OLED-subnotebook-with-a-Snapdragon-X-only-weighs-978-grams.955023.0.html?ref=blog.wootware.co.za) and found an exceptionally stable base, a slightly flexible lid, a minimal amount of hinge rocking and a keyboard a touch spongier than other Zenbooks. Their sample ran about 15 hours in a 150-nit WLAN test, which is excellent even if it is short of the advertised 32\. The OLED is 1920×1200 at 60Hz.

**Who it suits:** Frequent travellers, writers and office users whose applications run well on Arm. Need x86 for legacy business software? Take the ThinkBook. Need sustained graphics? Take a gaming laptop.

**Why we like it:** The sensible x86 office machine at the same price as the Zenbook. A 16-core Core Ultra 7, Windows 11 Pro and a 16-inch 16:10 screen make it a very comfortable place to spend a workday, and it will run every piece of business software you throw at it without an Arm compatibility question.

**Build and ownership:** Non-backlit keyboard, 45Wh battery, 1.7kg and a 45% NTSC panel. It is a desk-first productivity laptop rather than a creator machine, and the panel is the compromise you make for the screen size. If you need a fingerprint reader or IR camera, confirm it on this SKU; not every ThinkBook has one.

**Who it suits:** Businesses that need x86 Windows and buyers who want a big work area. Battery, storage and colour gamut are all modest.

**Why we like it:** Now in stock, and the cheapest way to get a current-generation RTX GPU from us. You get the same 144Hz FHD panel and 1TB SSD as the 15AHP10 pick above, with a Ryzen 5 220 and an RTX 5050 instead of the 5060\. It is a real step down in GPU, but under R20,000 it is a real gaming laptop.

**Build and ownership:** Plastic chassis, a single 16GB DIMM with a slot free and Windows 11 Home included. The RTX 5050 runs modern titles well at FHD with sensible settings; do not expect maximum settings at 144fps, and remember that DLSS frame generation is not native rendering. [Notebookcheck’s LOQ review](https://www.notebookcheck.net/Eyesore-or-eye-catcher-Lenovo-LOQ-15-gaming-laptop-review.1338691.0.html?ref=blog.wootware.co.za) covers the RTX 5060 sibling rather than this SKU.

**Who it suits:** Budget gamers who want a discrete GPU under R20,000\. If you can stretch another R5,000, the 15AHP10’s RTX 5060 is the better buy.

Ryzen 7 250RTX 5060 8GB16GB DDR5 (1×16GB)1TB SSDFHD 144Hz G-SYNCWindows 11 Home

**Why we like it:** Our sub-R30,000 pick, and the laptop we would buy ourselves at this budget. An 8-core Ryzen 7 250 and a 100W RTX 5060 is a genuinely capable pairing for R24,999, with a 1TB SSD and Windows 11 Home already in. It took over from the TUF F16 RTX 5060 after that sold out, and we think it is the better machine anyway.

**Build and ownership:** 60Wh battery, 2.4kg, a 170W adapter, a white-backlit keyboard and a 100% sRGB panel. [Notebookcheck reviewed the closely related 15AHP10/11](https://www.notebookcheck.net/Eyesore-or-eye-catcher-Lenovo-LOQ-15-gaming-laptop-review.1338691.0.html?ref=blog.wootware.co.za) with the same Ryzen 7 250 and RTX 5060 and found a rigid plastic chassis, 180° hinges and the usual very good Lenovo keyboard and touchpad. Their unit had a 16:10 165Hz panel at 2.2kg; ours is a 16:9 144Hz panel at 2.4kg, so take their brightness and frame-rate figures as a guide rather than a guarantee. Single 16GB DIMM, second slot free.

**Who it suits:** Gaming, code compilation and GPU-assisted creative work on a firm budget. It gets loud under load, and the 60Wh battery is a gaming-laptop battery. Add a second DIMM when 16GB starts to pinch.

**Why we like it:** The in-stock TUF F16 keeps the 16-core i7-14650HX and a sharper 2560×1600 165Hz panel, with an RTX 5050 and a 512GB SSD. Choose it over the LOQ if CPU grunt and screen resolution matter more to you than the 5060, and if you like the idea of a 90Wh battery.

**Build and ownership:** ASUS markets the TUF line with MIL-STD-810H testing; treat that as a statement of intent rather than a durability ranking. [PCMag’s review of the related FX608JH](https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/asus-tuf-gaming-f16-2026?ref=blog.wootware.co.za) liked the generous port selection and was not keen on the keyboard feel. The 90Wh battery is a real advantage over the LOQ’s 60Wh.

**Who it suits:** Buyers who want a capable CPU and a higher-resolution work area for around R22,500\. Play with sensible settings and plan to add storage.

Compared total: laptop R24,999 plus R1,399 for the adapter. If you already own a suitable charger, the laptop alone is R24,999.

**Why we like it:** The best laptop on this list for people who do not want to think about their laptop. Silent, light and quick, and the M5 handles everyday work without breaking a sweat. Our price includes the 70W adapter Apple sells separately. It is fanless, so under sustained heavy load it slows down sooner than a MacBook Pro.

**Build and ownership:** 1.23kg, a 500-nit display and a 53.8Wh battery. Memory is soldered, so 16GB is what you get for the life of the machine; buy for the work you will be doing in three years, not this week.

**Who it suits:** Writers, developers and light creators who value low weight and silence and whose workflow fits 16GB. Long renders want a Pro; games and CUDA want Windows.

### WootBook Y15 — recommended complete build

R26,045

Ryzen AI 7 350 / Radeon 860M24GB DDR5 (2×12GB)Crucial E100 1TBWindows 11 Home

This price is the complete recommended build (24GB, 1TB, Windows 11 Home), not the R12,999 barebones starting price. [See how it adds up](#wootbook-configs).

**Why we like it:** Our own Y15, priced as the complete build we would actually sell you rather than the R12,999 barebones number. We recommend the 24GB option because it is two 12GB modules, which fills both slots and runs in dual channel. The Radeon 860M leans on system memory, so that matters more here than on a laptop with a discrete GPU.

**Build and ownership:** A 15.3-inch 2560×1600 180Hz screen, a white-backlit keyboard, a 99Wh battery and 1.765kg. That battery is one of the largest in this guide, and the screen is a clear step above the FHD panels at this price.

**Who it suits:** Buyers who want this screen, the big battery and the fact that we build, support and warranty it ourselves. At the complete price the LOQ 15AHP10 gives you more GPU for less, so pick the Y15 for the display and the endurance rather than for frame rates.

Compared total: laptop R34,999 plus R1,549 for the adapter. If you already own a suitable charger, the laptop alone is R34,999.

**Why we like it:** Our mobile-professional pick under R40,000\. This is the base M5, and for most professional work it is plenty. The 120Hz XDR display, 1TB of storage and a proper port selection are what you are paying for. The price includes the separately sold 96W adapter.

**Build and ownership:** 1.55kg, a 72.4Wh battery, HDMI, an SD card reader and Thunderbolt 4\. [Notebookcheck’s base-M5 collection](https://www.notebookcheck.net/Apple-MacBook-Pro-14-2025-M5.1178580.0.html?ref=blog.wootware.co.za) is the right reference; M5 Pro and Max reviews cover a different chip.

**Who it suits:** Photographers, developers and musicians whose working set fits in 16GB and whose tools run on macOS. Step up to 32GB if you know you need it, not because someone told you it is better for longevity.

**Why we like it:** Twice the base MacBook Pro’s memory and a 3K 120Hz OLED touchscreen in a 1.28kg aluminium body. For Windows users who want a beautiful screen and a lot of RAM in something light, this is the one.

**Build and ownership:** Aluminium construction, a 75Wh battery and 100% DCI-P3 coverage. The memory is soldered, so 32GB is what you have for good.

**Who it suits:** Windows users who need a portable wide-gamut display and 32GB of memory. Integrated graphics and a glossy touch panel are the things to weigh.

**Why we like it:** 980 grams with 32GB of RAM, a 2TB SSD and a 3.1K 120Hz OLED touchscreen. That is an absurd amount of laptop for the weight. It is a portability machine rather than a workstation, so do not buy it for 3D or CUDA.

**Build and ownership:** A 70Wh battery, a backlit keyboard and a 1000-nit peak brightness claim; peak is not what you will see full-screen all day.

**Who it suits:** Frequent travellers who want Windows, plenty of storage and as little weight as possible. Confirm your dock and port needs before you order.

R35,045

Ryzen 9 8945HXRTX 5060 8GB24GB DDR5 (2×12GB)Crucial E100 1TBWindows 11 Home

This price is the complete recommended build (24GB, 1TB, Windows 11 Home), not the R21,999 barebones starting price. [See how it adds up](#wootbook-configs).

**Why we like it:** Our Core 16 Lite as a complete build: the same 24GB dual-channel kit, 1TB SSD and Windows 11 Home as the Y15, on top of a Ryzen 9 8945HX and an RTX 5060\. R21,999 is the barebones price; R35,045 is the laptop you would actually take home. The configurator’s 32GB option is a single module, so if you need more than 24GB, go bigger in pairs.

**Build and ownership:** A 2560×1600 300Hz panel at 500 nits, a per-key RGB keyboard, a 99Wh battery and just over 2.2kg. The 16-core CPU is the differentiator; nothing else in this guide under R40,000 has this much processor.

**Who it suits:** Users who need the 16-core CPU, the 300Hz panel or local build and support. As a pure gaming-value buy the LOQ 15AHP10 costs less; as a compile-and-render machine the Core 16 Lite is in a different league.

Ryzen 9 9955HXRTX 5070 Ti 12GB16GB DDR5 (1×16GB)1TB SSDWQXGA 240HzWindows 11 Home

**Why we like it:** Our sub-R50,000 pick and the sweet spot for serious gaming. The RTX 5070 Ti with 12GB of VRAM is a big step up from the 8GB cards below it, and the Ryzen 9 9955HX is a monster. It took over from the Legion Pro 5 when that sold out, and the extra 4GB of VRAM makes it the better buy anyway.

**Build and ownership:** [Ultrabookreview tested the 9955HX/5070 Ti G614FR family](https://www.ultrabookreview.com/73557-asus-rog-strix-g16amd-review?ref=blog.wootware.co.za) and loved the keyboard and glass touchpad; the GPU ran at up to 140W with Dynamic Boost. Our listing specifies a 500-nit 100% DCI-P3 panel, a 90Wh battery and 2.5kg. Regional panel and firmware differences are possible, so take their frame rates as a strong indication rather than a promise.

**Who it suits:** Gamers and GPU-assisted creators who put graphics first. It ships with 16GB in a single DIMM; budget for a second if your workload needs it.

**Why we like it:** The same base-M5 MacBook Pro with 32GB of memory. The extra RAM pays for itself the moment virtual machines, large photo catalogues or a heavy development environment outgrow 16GB. The chip is unchanged; this is not an M5 Pro.

**Build and ownership:** The same 1.55kg chassis and 72.4Wh battery as the 16GB model. RAM is soldered. The compared total includes the separate 96W adapter.

Core Ultra 9 275HXRTX 5090 24GB32GB DDR52TB SSD18-inch Mini-LED 240HzWindows 11 Home

**Why we like it:** The most laptop we sell, full stop. An RTX 5090 with 24GB of VRAM, a Core Ultra 9 275HX and an 18-inch 240Hz Mini-LED panel. It does not maximise frames per rand; a cheaper RTX 5080 machine does that. You buy the SCAR because you need the VRAM, the screen, or both.

**Build and ownership:** [Ultrabookreview](https://www.ultrabookreview.com/71055-asus-rog-scar-18-g835-review?ref=blog.wootware.co.za) found a metal lid over a plastic interior deck, a very good rubber-dome keyboard and a vapour-chamber cooler with liquid metal. The plastic shows fingerprints. Mini-LED avoids OLED burn-in at the cost of some blooming. This is a desk machine that happens to close.

**Who it suits:** Anyone who genuinely needs high-end mobile graphics, 24GB of VRAM or a large HDR screen. The laptop RTX 5090 is not the desktop RTX 5090, whatever the badge says.

Compared total: laptop R93,299 plus R1,899 for the adapter. If you already own a suitable charger, the laptop alone is R93,299.

**Why we like it:** The macOS production machine. 48GB of unified memory and an M5 Max make it the best laptop here for large creative and local-AI workloads in supported apps. There is no CUDA on a Mac, so if your pipeline needs it, the SCAR is your answer. The price includes the separately sold 140W adapter.

Everything is soldered. The fans are audible under sustained load, and battery life for rendering is nothing like battery life for browsing.

**Who it suits:** Video, audio and development professionals whose tools run on macOS and whose workloads justify the tier. Check real application performance rather than buying on core counts.

The 6GB of VRAM is the limit; this is a CAD and engineering machine rather than a gaming one.

## Sources and scope

This is a retail and published-review comparison rather than hands-on testing of every SKU we sell. Every recommendation was checked against its exact product page on 9 September. Where a review covers a related model rather than the exact local configuration, we say so below.

- [EFTM Vivobook 15 X1502 review](https://eftm.com/2025/05/asus-vivobook-15-x1502-review-performance-on-a-budget-262534?ref=blog.wootware.co.za) — Plastic/polycarbonate chassis and keyboard/trackpad impressions from the related Intel X1502, not the exact AMD M1502NAQ. Not the exact i7/RTX 5060 or WQXGA RTX 5050 SKU; its frame rates and 10h 22m battery result do not transfer to either.
